As sun breeched the horizon, rays of light creeping over the hills and flowing down to the earth below, a young man rose from his bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Brown locks framed his head messily, and he brushed them back with his fingers, yawning widely.
Stepping to the window, he pushed back the curtains and looked out at the sky. As the sun illuminated the room, it was obvious he had been studying lately. Books littered the room, open and strewn out seemingly haphazardly, pages of notes scattered on the floor, large bookmarks sticking out of corners, the only part of the room that was semi-organized was the bed, where a large notebook rested at the foot of the bed.
He moved back from the window, turning to one of the largest books on the overflowing desk, frowning as he stared at the open pages.
"Once upon a time," he started, looking at the words for what had to have been the millionth time in the past few months. "There was civilization on all of the planets - Solarians, Mecurians, Venusians, Terrans, Martians, Jovians, the list goes on and on!" he shouted, frustrated.
He turned his gaze to a simple sketch he had pinned to the wall, a girl smiling brightly, her hair pulled up into a flowing ponytail. She was only sketched with pencil, her expression displayed only in shades of gray, but she was breathtaking.
"WHY CAN'T I GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD?!"
He dropped his forehead to the desk, as if by some chance he could get an answer if he knocked a few more brain cells loose.
A voice called to him hauntingly on the wind, Because, you and are I meant to be. Find me, Nephrite. Find me, and set me free, love. I know you can do it.
"Makoto? Nephrite groaned, running his hand over his face, "I don't know where to look. Please, if you have a heart, stop haunting me."
The voice gave a wistful sigh, But don't you remember, love? You have my heart right now; you always have, and you always will...
